More About the Canterbury Panel Bed with Low Footboard by Maple Corner Woodworks
The Canterbury Panel Bed with Low Footboard, along with all of Maple Corner’s heirloom furniture, is made with the best wood that can be sourced: Cherry from the western Pennsylvania cherry forests, hard maple from the maple groves of Vermont, and Walnut from the Pennsylvania sawmills that have been harvesting this beautiful field wood for 100’s of years. Maple Corner believes in harvesting wood in a responsible manner to preserve forests for future generations. Whenever possible they buy wood and support organizations with this goal in mind.
Wood Finish
Maple Corner furniture uses a non-toxic raw linseed oil with zero VOCs (volatile organic compounds) for Cherry and Walnut. This finish is based on the carriage oils of the 1800’s and is made by Sunnyside. For Maple (because of its dense pore structure) they use General Finish’s Arm-R-Seal. This is a low VOC oil based varnish. All of Maple Corner’s furniture can be ordered unfinished and some custom finishes may be available by special request.
Slats
Maple Corner’s platform beds come with eight 7-1/2 inch wide, 3/4 inch thick hardwood slats that are spaced 2-1/4 inches apart. These slats are individually fit into each bed with hardwood dowels.
